Quick & easy instant bookings for Tamaki Maori Village
As soon as you board the Tamaki coach to make your way to the village, your experience begins - learn of the Maori migration and protocols when entering another village, and a chief will be selected to represent your tribe.
Enter the village and watch it come alive with the sights, sounds and activity of days gone by. Watch, touch, take time and talk to our people as you wander through our village - you will be invited to participate in stick games, warrior training, learn the poi and we will also teach you how to perform the fearsome haka. See other demonstrations including facial tattooing, weaving, carving and how our food was cooked and preserved many years ago before you witness the earth being scraped carefully away from the hot stone hangi pit by your Maori chef, to reveal baskets laden with a sumptuous, mouth watering feast before being a part in enjoying this traditional spread.
At the heart of the village, enter our ancestral Meeting House and relax as our family entertains you with a powerful cultural performance including action songs, short and long poi, weaponry displays, stick games and the world famous "haka" - Maori War Dance before the evening draws to an end with the Poroporoaki - the official closing ceremony with waiata (songs) and whaikorero (speeches).
Please wear a warm jacket, sensible footwear & your camera.
