Quick & easy instant bookings for Wellington Rover Tours
The tour begins by exploring the film locations used around Wellington City; starting by heading down Courtenay Place, the entertainment centre of Wellington, to see where the stars walked & 100,000 people gathered to watch world premier of 'LOTR: Return of the King' and more recently 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' at the Embassy Movie theatre.
Then it's up to Mt Victoria and after a quick stop at the lookout for fabulous views of the City & Harbor, drive down to the 'Green Belt' for a walk through the forest to stand where the actors stood while filming and visit many different scene locations including "Shortcut to Mushrooms", " Get off the Road", "Race to the Ferry" and "Dunharrow Plateau".
Next it's off to 'Wellywood', the heart of the Wellington Film industry. Drive out to the suburb of Mirimar where Peter Jackson & Weta NZ Have put the film studios & post production facilities. Stop at the Weta Cave and visit the brand new 'Windows into Workshop' exhibition and enjoy a guided tour of the physical prop-making & make-up side of the Weta Studios as well as a short film about the Digital side of the productions. Finish up with some time to allow you to see the mini-museum & souvenir shop before being taken back to the city.
An avid LOTR fan and want to see more? Try the Full Day Tour for the complete LOTR experience. Continue where the Half Day Tour leaves off for an Orc sized lunch at Scorch-O-Rama cafe, featuring a LOTR themed menu designed especially for Wellington Rover Tours (included).
Your afternoon is then continued spent exploring the Hutt Valley, with featured stops at the Hutt River (Great River Anduin) and Harcourt Park (Gardens of Isengard and where the Orcs felled the trees) before finally visiting Kaitoke Regional Park which was the setting for Rivendell, situated in a thousand year old New Zealand Native rainforest (you will see why the Elves chose to live here!).
